The Mountain Emei ancient Zen tea is produced in the hometown of “White Snake”

Mount Emei, located in the mysterious golden tea-producing belt at 30°north latitude, is a world-famous world cultural and natural heritage, one of the oldest birthplaces of world tea and Chinese tea, and one of the birthplaces of Chinese Zen tea culture. Known by United Nations experts as the area with the best vegetation protection at the same latitude in the world, it has been a natural resort for tea growth since ancient times.

Li Shan, a scholar of the Tang Dynasty, recorded in “Selected Notes on Zhaoming Wen”: “Eshan has many medicinal herbs, especially tea, which is different from the rest of the world. Tea is grown on the cliff behind Heishui Temple, good taste and two years white and one year green, and it is quite orderly. I don’t know how the earth’s atmosphere dictates change. ” The Heishui Temple mentioned in the article was built in the Jin Dynasty and is in the “Xueya Village” at an altitude of more than 1,000 meters opposite the Wannian Temple in Mount Emei. It is not only the birthplace of Mountain Emei tea, the “eternal Zen tea”, but also the main producing area of Emei “immortal grass” Ganoderma lucidum. According to legend, after practicing in Mount Emei for thousands of years and becoming an immortal, the “White Snake” went to West Lake in Hangzhou to marry Xu Xian. In order to save Xu Xian, the White Snake and the Green Snake fought in Mount Emei to steal the “immortal grass” Ganoderma lucidum stolen by the mountain guard fairy boy, which was hidden deep in this quiet and charming village.

Mountain Emei tea comes from Buddhism and has been the best of Mount Emei’s famous teas since ancient times. In the Tang Dynasty, it was known as “Emei Baiya” and “Emei Snow Tea”. In the Song and Ming Dynasties, it had other elegant names such as “Snow Fragrance” and “Qingming Fragrance”. As early as the end of the Sui Dynasty and the beginning of the Tang Dynasty, it was recorded as one of China’s top ten famous teas in ancient books such as the “Tea Book” by the tea sage Lu Yu and “Supplement to the History of the Tang Dynasty” by Li Zhao. The “Chinese Tea Dictionary” edited and published by Chen Zongmao, a leader in the Chinese tea industry and an academician of the Academy of Engineering, also included Mountain Emei tea in the list of famous teas of the Tang and Song Dynasties.

The patriotic poet Lu You of the Southern Song Dynasty lived in the famous tea hometown in the south of the Yangtze River for a long time. He was an expert in tea tasting. When he was a vice-mayor in Jiazhou, he formed a lifelong friendship with the Zen Master Bie Feng of Mount Emei. When Lu You was about to leave Jiazhou, Bie Feng made Mountain Emei tea and gave it to Lu You as a farewell gift. Lu You invited his tea connoisseurs to build a stove with clear springs in the temple at Dingdongyuan in Jiazhou to make tea and share the fragrant tea from the fairy mountain. He also wrote the poem “The snow buds are obtained from Emei, and the red sacs are not lost in spring”, which made Mountain Emei tea spread from generation to generation and became the “eternal Zen tea” that spreads all over the world.
